About Tarab...
"Take that concept 'Tarab', for example, a paragraph of explanation for something as simple as a breath, a lifting of the heart"
Claire joined Tarab in 2004 for their "Radio Tarab" show and was thrown straight in at the deep end performing with the company at the Edinburgh Fringe. Since then, Claire has performed and choreographed in the highly successful "Strictly Bellydance" show in 2007 to 2008, and is currently Artistic Director for Tarab's current project, "Rihla – The Journey of Bellydance".
Being part of Tarab has been instrumental to Claire's development as a performer and choreographer. The main joy for Claire of being in Tarab is the inspiration she gains from the other members. The Company work in a collaborative manner together, all having an input into the show concepts and choreographies. This gives the shows a degree of variety and a sense of of the dancers' personalities that would otherwise be very difficult to obtain. The current Company line-up comprises Claire, Anna Bisco, Heather Charlton, Sabrina Owen, Nisha Lall, Vanessa Clipsham, Naomi Howard, Sarah Pulman and Stephanie Jagger. Claire has also had many fabulous and inspirational experiences working with former members including Ali Whitworth, Kay Taylor, Anne Kingston, Tine Valois, Milly, Kara Steele and Christine Emery, who have all left their indelible mark on Tarab as it goes forward in its adventures.
About "Rihla - The Journey of Bellydance"...
The Company are currently developing their new show, "Rihla – The Journey of Bellydance" , which they will be touring around various venues across the UK in 2011/2012.
The show follows the story of a group of dancers working on a finale piece for their new production. Their desire to explore what "Bellydance" really means to them takes them on a journey to look at perception of Bellydance in both Middle Eastern and Western culture and how the dance has evolved to what it is today.
Diverse and exciting choreographies intermingle with a narrative that guides the audience along the journey. The show is an entertaining and enlightening show suitable for the entire family - dancers and non-dancers alike.
In conjunction with the show, Tarab will also be offering free Bellydance Taster Sessions to the local communities. These require no previous dance experience and are designed to be fun and informative for all.
Details of confirmed show and taster session dates so far can be found on the Events page or at www.tarabdance.com, where you can also find out far more about Rihla!
Tarab are also available to book to perform either the full show or shortened, event-tailored, shows at other theatres, festivals and events.
